Dr Adrian Fung volunteers in Laos

Between 5-10 January this year Dr Adrian Fung spent one week volunteering at the Ophthalmology Centre in the capital of Laos, Vientiane. Invited by the Sight for All Foundation, he was able to train local ophthalmologists. Each morning was spent examining challenging cases brought in from all around the country before teaching surgery and laser, whilst afternoons were reserved for lecturing on topics including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and retinal vascular occlusions. Although resources were very limited, Dr Fung feels grateful for the opportunity to be involved in such a worthwhile venture, and the development and improvement of such an enthusiastically staffed hospital.
