Your Visit

All you need to know

At Retina and Macula Specialists we strive to give you the utmost care and attention in a timely fashion. Since your first consultation may require extensive examination and tests, expect to stay up to 2 hours. Due to the need to treat patients with eye emergencies, wait times can sometimes be delayed. We thank you for your understanding.

What to bring

Please bring with you:

  1. Referral letter from the optometrist, general practitioner or medical specialist.
  2. Spectacles and spectacle prescription. If wearing contact lenses, please bring a contact lens case so that they can be removed prior to examination.
  3. A summary of your medical history, medications and allergies
  4. Medicare card
  5. Private health insurance card (e.g. HCF, MBF, Medibank Private, NIB), Pension card or Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) card.
  6. Sunglasses to reduce glare after pupil dilation

Patients will be seen by the orthoptist first. They will have their vision and eye pressure tested. Often an optical coherence tomography (OCT) scan is performed. You will then see your doctor, who may order more tests if necessary.

Procedures such as eye injections and laser can be performed on the same day as the appointment. Patients should have an escort for transportation following their procedures. If surgery is required, the timing of this will depend on the medical urgency.

Driving after a visit

Patients will have their pupils dilated at every visit. This will blur the vision for up to 4 hours, so patients should have an escort to help with transportation or they should take public transport.

Payment is made on the day of your appointment.
We accept cash, cheque, EFTPOS, VISA and Mastercard.
You will be informed of costs by our staff.
Informed written financial consent is provided prior to surgical procedures.
Discounts are available for pensioners.

There are two free public council parking areas available along Central Road.
